The final modules have been delivered for Pluto Train 2 on Woodside's Scarborough Energy Project at the Pluto liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Australia. The completion of the Pluto Train 2 module program keeps the project on track for first delivery of LNG in 2026.
“The Scarborough Energy Project has made significant progress across multiple work fronts and is now over three quarters complete,” Liz Westcott, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Woodside Australia, said in a statement.
The Scarborough gas field, located 375 km off the coast of Western Australia in the Carnarvon Basin, will be developed through new offshore facilities connected by a 430-km-long pipeline to Pluto Train 2.
The Scarborough Energy Project—Australia's largest fossil fuel development in a decade—will include the installation of a floating production unit (FPU) with eight wells drilled in the initial phase and 13 wells drilled over the life of the field. All wells will be tied back to the semisubmersible FPU moored in 950 m of water.
Once operational, 5 mtpa of Scarborough gas will be processed through Pluto Train 2, with up to 3 mtpa processed through the existing Pluto Train 1. The expanded facility will also feature new domestic gas infrastructure to supply the Western Australian market.
Woodside selected Bechtel for the engineering, procurement, and construction of Pluto Train 2, with construction activities beginning in August 2022.
“The Woodside and Bechtel teams will now focus on executing the module integration and commissioning of the facility in preparation for the targeted first Scarborough LNG cargo in 2026," Westcott added in the announcment.
