Digitalization has transformed consumer behavior, revolutionizing everything from entertainment to shopping. But, at many oil and gas installations, it is as though this transformation never happened. Until now.
At Aker BP’s installations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, more and more field workers are trading pencil and paper for handheld devices that enable them access sensor data, maintenance logs, interactive 3D models of installations and equipment, and more.
At the 2019 SPE Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition in Aberdeen, Cognite and Aker BP detailed this vision of a digitalized workforce as they presented the paper "Digital Worker: Empowering Offshore Operators with Easily Accessible Data To Improve Efficiency and Safety."
The paper explains the approach that companies should take to involve field workers as they rethink and reshape operating routines. Specifically, it includes an in-depth exploration of a design philosophy for digital solutions that incorporates shadowing end users in the workplace, considering the environment in which the solutions will be used, mapping the larger ecosystem of solutions, and continually testing and refining solutions in development.
