Norwegian oil and gas operator DNO ASA said it made a major discovery at its Kjøttkake exploration well in the North Sea, with preliminary estimates of gross recoverable resources in the range of 39 to 75 million BOE.

“We are on a hot streak in Norway,” said Executive Chairman Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani. “Our latest and most exciting discovery this year, Kjøttkake, is close to existing infrastructure in the Troll-Gjøa area, and we will be relentless in pursuing its commercialization.”

Located 27 km northwest of the Troll C platform and 44 km southwest of the Gjøa platform in DNO’s PL1182 S license, Kjøttkake is DNO’s tenth discovery since 2021 in the Troll-Gjøa area.

DNO has also racked up other large discoveries in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including Norma in 2023 and Othello in 2024, both of which it operates.

Following its exploration success, the Oslo-based company has increased its purchases of producing assets to balance its Norwegian portfolio and fund upcoming developments.

In early March, DNO acquired Sval Energi for $1.6 billion, making the North Sea the biggest contributor to DNO’s net production. This transaction, which is expected to close within this year, will increase its North Sea proven and probable reserves to 189 million BOE, and contingent resources to 246 million BOE.

DNO operates the license with a 40% stake. Partners in the license include Aker BP (30%), Concedo (15%), and Japex Norge (15%).
