Petrobras has brought its FPSO Maria Quitéria online in the pre-salt Jubarte field, the operator announced on 15 October.

The FPSO, originally forecast to begin production in 2025 according to the operator’s 2024–2028 strategic plan, is in 1,385-m water depth in the area known as Parque das Baleias in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

The spread-moored FPSO can handle 100 BOPD and process up to 5 million m3/D of gas from eight producing wells. Eight injection wells will inject about 330,000 BWPD.

Petrobras is chartering the FPSO from Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings Berhad through 2047.

In an August press release announcing the FPSO’s arrival offshore Brazil, Sylvia Anjos, director of exploration and production at Petrobras, said the unit will use natural gas for internal combined cycle electricity generation, which has the potential to reduce emissions by up to 24%.

The Jubarte field was discovered in 2001. Also in the Parque das Baleias area are the Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Pirambú, and Mangangá fields. In 2019, Petrobras and the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels agreed to extend the concession term of the unified Jubarte field through 2056.

Three other platforms are currently in operation at Parque das Baleias: P-57, P-58, and FPSO Cidade de Anchieta.

In another August press release, Anjos said the “Lift and Flow Digital Twin” technology that Petrobras has piloted at the P-57 and Cidade de Anchieta “can be used in all Petrobras’s offshore production and injection wells. We’ll start using the tools in maritime wells of other units no later than this year.”

The FPSO Maria Quitéria will account for approximately 40% of the Jubarte field's production.

Petrobras operates the Jubarte field with 100% interest.
