Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2024 officially launched in Kuala Lumpur with more than 20,000 attendees, sponsors, exhibitors, and students registered from over 75 countries. This year marks a significant milestone, with OTC Asia celebrating 10 years since its inception in 2014.

Hosted by Petronas, OTC Asia 2024 builds upon its legacy of excellence and innovation to deliver an immersive experience that showcases cutting-edge technologies, fosters collaboration, and drives meaningful discussions around key opportunities and challenges facing the offshore energy sector.

In his keynote address at the opening ceremony, President and Group CEO of Petronas Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik said, “Asia continues its firm commitment to be part of the solution in the energy transition. For us to realize this common goal, national oil companies; oil, gas, and energy majors; OGSE players; financiers; technology solutions providers; and policymakers must work together to spur novel ideas, explore new frontier technologies, and ultimately forge partnerships to decarbonize the energy value chain towards realizing a just, orderly, and equitable energy transition.”

Datuk Adif Zulkifli, executive vice president and CEO for upstream at Petronas, added, “As we decarbonize the energy systems today and build the energy systems of tomorrow, we truly subscribe to the power of technology. Technological breakthroughs and innovation have always pushed the boundaries of what’s possible, and in technology we put our trust once again as we navigate the path ahead.”

“This year’s theme, 'Excellence in Asia: Energizing Now and For the Future,' encapsulates its ambition to continue pushing the boundaries of technology and industry collaboration for sustainable practices in a lower carbon world. Through a rich tapestry of strategic and technical sessions, country updates, and networking opportunities, we aim to foster an environment of learning, exchange, and inspiration,” said Alex Martinez, chair of the OTC Board of Directors.

This inclusive conference takes place for 3½ days and showcases captains of industry, business practitioners, and subject-matter experts, with attendees gaining invaluable insights from a comprehensive interdisciplinary program as well as discovering leading-edge technologies and groundbreaking solutions at the exhibition.

The conference program most notably featured a leadership dialogue helmed by executive leaders—Datuk Adif Zulkifli, executive vice president and CEO for upstream at Petronas; Montri Rawanchaikul, CEO of PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP); Chalid Said Salim, CEO of Pertamina Hulu Energi; Stefano Raciti, COO of Mubadala Energy; Jeff Miller, president and CEO of Halliburton; Khaled Al Mogharbel, executive vice president for geographies at SLB; Yongzhang Huang, vice president and chief health, safety, and environment supervisor at CNPC and executive director and president of PetroChina; Sushil Purohit, CEO of Gentari; and Lorenzo Simonelli, chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes.

The discussion presented and deliberated on the theme of "Energizing Now and for the Future" in two parts to delve into insights on the industry’s evolutionary transition toward a more sustainable and net zero future energy mix.

Other highlights at the event include discussions on the energy trilemma, digitalization, business models, financing, sustainability, and the future of energy; a technical program on demonstrated technologies and research findings on offshore energy; and an Energy Evolution Exchange program tackling conversations on decarbonization, net-zero solutions, future energy, and hydrogen.
