SPE’s Asset Management Technical Section has announced registration is open for a first-of-its-kind symposium, "Powering the Future of Energy," which will bring together chief economists from major energy companies and Dallas Federal Reserve Bank leaders to discuss the future of energy. The event will be held 14 January 2026 in Houston and will feature its inaugural North American edition of Energython, “Molecule to Megabyte." This competition invites students to tackle a strategic business case challenge focused on gas-to-data-center solutions.

The symposium will feature eight panel sessions that explore global energy markets, the evolution of US oil and gas, and the emerging pathways transforming energy and power. 2024 SPE President Terry Palisch will deliver the luncheon keynote moderated by SPE Asset Management Technical Section Chair Hitesh Mohan.

Inaugural Energython 2026

This dynamic competition challenges student teams to design a techno-economic model for powering a 10–20-MW data center using a natural gas-fired power plant. Participants will dive into supply-chain logistics, power-generation technologies, and financial modeling, culminating in a high-stakes “Shark Tank”-style pitch to industry experts.

Teams of 3–5 students, guided by faculty mentors, will submit a 10-minute video and a detailed presentation outlining their proposals. The top five teams will advance to the live finals, where innovation, technical rigor, and financial acumen will be judged.

With attractive prizes and global editions planned across India (January–Mar 2026), Europe (February–June 2026), Africa (April–June 2026), and Latin America & the Caribbean (April–June 2026), Energython is set to become a premier platform for showcasing the intersection of energy and data.
