After producing for 43 years, the Statfjord A platform will cease production in 2022. The topside will be dismantled and recycled at Kvaerner's Stord yard in Norway, where it was built in the 70s. The Allseas Pioneering Spirit, the world’s largest heavy-lift vessel, will remove the 48,000-tonne topside in one single lift. The platform is one of the oldest on the Norwegian continental shelf. Originally scheduled to be decommissioned in 1999, its lifespan was extended several times.
