The Offshore Technology Conference drew nearly 25,000 participants, showing renewed interest in in-person meetings following the successful ADIPEC and IPTC conferences.

Back again with an all-virtual format, the 6th edition of the SPE Startup Village has opened for applications for its Energy Startup Competition to be held on 20–21 September.

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) has named the 2022 recipients of the Spotlight on New Technology Award. A total of 14 companies, including seven small businesses, were recognized this year for their breakthrough hardware and software technologies.

Employment is not a direct function of oil prices, but of upstream and midstream investment and activity. Fluctuations in SPE membership generally lag the activity increase or decrease by 1–2 years. It is expected that the current upcycle of activity will contribute to a rebound in membership, especially among the young professionals.

New to the exhibit floor this year, the Energy Transition Pavilion will present advancements in alternative energy sources and the technology being developed to decarbonize, drive sustainability, and improve energy efficiency.

The Emerging Leaders Program recognizes young professionals with fewer than 10 years of experience in the offshore energy sector. This year’s class will be honored during a special ceremony during the conference on 3 May.

High oil prices will mean more spending on workovers to eke out more oil and gas from older wells. The amount will depend on finding those willing and able to do that tricky work.

Today's high oil prices have not removed the memories of some top upstream executives about how swiftly boom-and-bust cycles can move, nor have they eroded their mission to lower carbon footprints.

Drillers are feeling good about higher oil prices, but only to a point.

The awards will be presented at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston in May.
