Subsea7 confirmed the award of a sizable contract by Talos Energy for the Sunspear development in Green Canyon Block 78 in the US Gulf of Mexico. The contractor defines a sizable contract as one with a value between $50 million and $150 million.

The project scope includes the subsea tieback of one production well at Sunspear to the Prince tension-leg platform, 12 km to the north in Ewing Bank Block 1003. Subsea7 will install the flowline and related subsea equipment at 500 m water depths.

Subsea7’s Houston office will oversee project management and installation engineering, with offshore work scheduled to begin later this year.

The Sunspear exploitation well successfully discovered commercial quantities of oil and natural gas in July 2023. Talos's preliminary post-drill analysis indicated approximately 260 ft of gross true vertical thickness of oil pay (177 ft net across two targets), including 149 ft of net oil pay in the main target in line with pre-drill expectations.

First oil is expected in the second quarter of 2025. Working interest partners in Sunspear are Talos 48%, an entity managed by Ridgewood Energy Corporation, 47.5%, and Houston Energy, 4.5%.
